Windows 8 May get the start button back!

For those customer who have purchased a Windows 8 Computer, one of the biggest issues we see is the lack of the start button.
People have got used to using this for everything, and with it demise and the move to the metro (tiled) interface Microsoft took a gable.

For most people it has been easy all we have done is add task bar icons for what they use, and for most people that will be Email, Web, Word, Excel and Line of Business Apps.

This week I then got chatting at an event for techs to others who fairly much agreed once you got used to it then there really wasn’t a problem. Then up on Goggle + popped this link http://www.theverge.com/2013/4/22/4251610/windows-8-1-start-button.
So from this it looks like Windows 8.1 will include a start button (with reduced functionality) and the option to boot to desktop, and not go straight to the metro interface.

I wish when Microsoft are being inventive they stick at it, and not back track as soon as possible.

Do you really know everything you should about your technology set up!

This is based on a real life scenario, no names are mentioned, but it proves why, if you don’t do technology just outsource all of it to a trusted provider.

Customer A has been hosting their website, and email with a provider for many years.  Customer A starts to think that not all is good, so they arrange for the hosting to be moved.

The hosting comes up for renewal, the customer now decided to tell the provider that we don’t need you any more, and so the hosting company removes the website.

After a few hours the customer finds out that the website no longer works!!!

You see it turns out that the customer had only actually moved the email away from the hosting company, and since the hosting contract had expired, the hosting company was simply clearing out old data.

The upshot of this is that your technology needs managing. Your updates need managing, your anti-virus needs managing, the list goes on and on.  And if you have a renewal period on licenses or hosted services this also needs to be managed.

So do you know everything you should about your companies technology set up?
Is it all documented somewhere?
Is this easy to find?

It follows our philosophy, here in that you do what ever business you do, and we will do what we do, we do the technology so you don’t have to.
