Passkeys could improve the way you work, a few months back we looked at passkeys as the successor to the password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, we\u2019re hearing that Apple will start rolling out Passkeys in the next few months in iOS 16. And we\u2019re excited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though it\u2019s caused a bit of confusion. Apple is going to great lengths to market the Passkey, and understandably, people have assumed that it\u2019s a feature exclusive to Apple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s not the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, Passkeys will be used in a joint effort to boost online security by Apple, Microsoft and Google. The reason Apple is promoting this new feature so hard is to get the message out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Microsoft and Google are also keen to spread the word so that people understand how Passkeys work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The more people take advantage of Passkeys, the safer our businesses are online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passkeys could improve the way you work<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Passkeys \u2013 otherwise known as FIDO authentication \u2013 work by letting you log into an app or website with just your username and your pre-authenticated device, most probably your phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your device generates a cryptographic token, which makes the second part of a cryptographic key pair. When the pair matches, you\u2019re allowed access to the app or website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What that means in practice is when you\u2019re logging in, you just use your phone to prove its really you. You\u2019ll just unlock it using your face, fingerprint or PIN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So long as your phone is within Bluetooth range of your computer it will work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And without needing a password\u2026 bliss\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a far more secure way to access apps and keep your accounts safe from cyber criminals. You never see your cryptographic token, so it takes away a lot of the danger of having your login credentials stolen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cyber criminals will be unable to use their normal tactics \u2013 such phishing emails, brute force attacks, or key loggers \u2013 to steal your credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They\u2019ll need your physical device, making remote hacking much less likely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you use Windows Hello, you\u2019ll see that Passkeys are already supported. And it won\u2019t be long until all three tech giants roll out support across their entire product range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
